Sketch Support Blog Hop!

Posted by Noey on April 14th, 2012 — Posted in 3 Photos, Single Page Layout, Sketch Support

Thanks for joining our Sketch Support Blog Hop today!

If you joined us somewhere in the middle, be sure to start back at Sketch Support.  And be sure to read my whole post, because there is a GIVEAWAY at the end.  😉

Here is my take on Allison’s excerpt from the new volume of one page sketches:

Products used:  Papers: American Crafts, Colorbok (silver);  Letters:  American Crafts (white), Sassafras (green);  Stickers: American Crafts (white foam), Me & My Big Ideas (green arrow), Heidi Grace (“travel”);  Journaling block:  Creative Imaginations;  Sketch:  Sketches for Scrapbooking

I made a few tweaks to Allison’s sketch.  Here is what I changed and why:

One:  I, as always, have more vertical photos than anything else, so I needed to fit one into this sketch.  I decided to expand two of the square photos into one skinny vertical photo.

Two:  I used really busy patterned papers so it caused a bunch of movement.  I shifted the journaling into a block and moved the central part of the layout downward so I could sit the title up on top.  I also matted the 4×6 horizontal photo to keep it as a focal point.

Three:  My style is pretty simple, so I kept the accents to a minimum.  These patterned papers added enough visual interest for me.  😉

Some more info about me:

How long have you been scrapbooking?
I started scrapbooking in high school, but I was too busy in college to continue.  So I picked it back up again in 2007.  There is a clear progression in my work from the early albums through my current work.  I have found a lot of inspiration online and at crops and I have slowly evolved my style.
Why did you start scrapbooking?
I love to keep things like ticket stubs and pamphlets from events that I have attended.  Anything with a date on it, I consider to be precious and irreplaceable.  So I started scrapbooking to have a place to keep all of these momentos.  I began with just photo corners to hold everything on pages.
What is your favorite time of day to scrapbook?
During the middle of the day when I’m awake (I’m not a morning person) and there is great sunlight coming through my windows.
How often do you scrapbook?
I used to scrapbook all the time!  But now I have an almost 2 year old, and free time is a little more sparse.  I try to get some scrapping in atleast twice a week during nap time or after my son has gone to bed.
Where do you scrapbook/what does your space look like?
Well, my scrapbook “room” is in a strange little nook near the front door and divided from the living room by a double sided fireplace.  I’ve done my best to use the space efficiently for storage and a large desk for working.  Thankfully, I have tons of windows, so the lighting is fabulous during the day.
When I’m not scrapbooking you can find me…
Entertaining my son, knitting, reading, going on walks, taking photos, trying new restaurants, and traveling.  Lots and lots of traveling.
What is your favorite thing about using sketches?
I have to start by saying what is my favorite part about scrapbooking.  I love choosing color combos and playing with patterns.  I’ve learned a lot over the years about how to pair patterns in fun ways to add interest to layouts without overwhelming the photos.  I love using sketches because that way somebody else tells me where to put my colors and patterns on the layout and I can stay focused on what I love most.
What is your favorite sketch from Sketch Support?
I have thoroughly enjoyed every month at Sketch Support, but I fondly remember working with one of the very first double page sketches to debut on Sketch Support.  Here is the sketch and my take is below it in the post.

And now for the giveaway!

I have 2 books to share of Allison’s newest work.  There is the One Page Sketch Book Volume 2, and the exciting travel themed Sketch Book with lots of 4×6 photos so you can scrap your trip faster.

Please comment on this post and let me know if you use sketches (and if you don’t yet, you should try them out soon!).  I will draw two random winners on Monday morning who will each get a new sketch book!

Also, be sure to comment on all blogs along the hop to be entered for the grand prize drawing at Sketch Support.

Please now continue on to visit Christine!

I believe that you right. The papers you chose provide enough visuals that adding extra embellishments and do-dads would have made it look busy. I think it looks good how it is. I also take more vertical pictures than horizontal and am I learning how to tweak sketches to make them work for me. :)

Great LO. I also love that you explained your tweaks on the sketch.

Being a newbie at scrapbooking, I do like referring to sketches especially if I’m working with a few photos. As I usually print my photos at home and use a photo collage and I find it difficult to relate them onto the sketches. So hopefully I get enlightened soon.
